Interviewing The Voluntears

The original indie rock sound of the Arcitic Monkeys might be lost as Alex Turner seems to diverge from his bands original sound, however The Voluntears may be able to win over the fan bases hearts.

From the Pyramid Glastonbury slot to a new album and incredible advice, this is what happened when I caught up with Mark Dunn from The Voluntears.

SBLM - For the people who never heard of you before, can you introduce yourselves ?

We are The Voluntears.

Lead singer- Seamus Edge
Lead Guitar-Scott Stephenson
Rhythm guitar-Mark Dunn
Bass guitar- Simon Brown
Drummer- Nathan Rawkins

SBLM - What is your musical style and what musicians are you similar to ?

"Indie Rock and Roll and Vive le Rock magazine compared us to "Early Arctic Monkeys and The View at their best""

SBLM - What is the best show you've ever played and why ?

"We've played loads of great gigs and festivals like Hardwick Live where we played with Cast, Embrace, Razorlight and many more but our album launch party at newcastle's O2academy is probably our highlight so far, we played to a sell home crowd and the atmosphere was just amazing! "

SBLM - Where do you want to go as a band ? To Glastonbury ?

" All of the above sounds good to us, we're just five humble musicians from working class families so we're already in awe of what we've achieved so far but would we like to play the pyramid stage at Glasto, or sell out UK tours or play at Bencasism festival... Of course we would, who wouldn't! "

SBLM - Have you got any upcoming tours, singles or album releases ?

" Our album "Beggars Belief" launched on the 2nd of October and we've got several upcoming gig dates. The latest single we've released through our mighty Label Flicknife records is a track called "Drowning in defeat" which is about getting through financial struggles something we know only too well haha. "

SBLM - Who would be your ideal band/musician to tour with ?

"Going back through time we'd have have loved to your with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Jam and hundreds more but l currently someone like Arctic Monkeys or Kings of Leon I think their fan bases would connect with us."

SBLM - What is one unusual thing people may not know about you ?

"Apart from the drummer Nathan we all live within half a mile of each other..."

SBLM - What advice would you give to bands who are just starting up ?

"Do it because you love it, not because you want to be on TV or chasing fame and fortune, all those things should be side effects of following your passion. All bands go through highs and lows, fallouts and knock backs, the trick is to stay true to yourselves and keep going and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve..."

SBLM - What would you like to say to your fans ?

"We honestly can't thank our current fans enough for their support, they've championed us from the very beginning and without them we wouldn't exist, we owe them everything."

SBLM - Any last words ?

"We'd just like to say a massive thank you anyone who has taken the time to listen to our music, we hope to see you at a gig one day and you can expect to see a whole lot more from us in the near future.

Find us on Facebook www.facebook.com/thevoluntears and Twitter www.twitter.com/thevoluntears for general updates and upcoming tour dates!
