Strange Behaviours 2017

As previous act's go on to sell out the infamous Barrowlands and legendary King Tuts, it's nearly time for this years Strange Behaviours festival and for the next run of upcoming local musicians to take to the stage.

Strange Behaviours has for the last  been a weekend of celebrating and showcasing new local music. Held in Stirling's Tolbooth, a venue which's 'people who have played here before' history never fails to surprise us, the festival has played a part in some of the countries fastest rising bands including the Van T's, Model Aeroplanes, Pronto Mama and We Are Animals. Just last year, the Barrowland sell outs The LaFontaines played the festival. Jumping from the intimate mini-festival to 2,000+ capacity reknowned venue.

Different from previous years, the 2017 Strange Behaviour's festival has been split into two mini-festivals, each one night long. The first night of the festival was in June with a line up including Glaswegian three-piece PAWS, who's latest album was produced by Blink 182's Mark Hoppus.

With the growth of the previous acts, this year's festival feels surreal. Mainly because you genuinely don't know if one of the bands playing on the night will go on to become something huge. It's something we felt at Xpo North and with King Tut's Summer Nights earlier this year. There is currently a wealth of talent in the UK and it's just below mainstream. It's living in the countries small venues and festivals. It's surviving on people going to events like this and going to introducing stages over main stages at festivals.

Everyone seems to be on tour at the moment and to some people it feels as if the small acts are being pushed away but really this is an advantage. It's the time of the year where the support acts begin to out perform the main acts and the music landscape starts to change in time for next years 'rising musicians' to come through.

Our must see acts for this festival are Triptych and Emme Woods. Both acts hailing from Stirlingshire and are two of our favourite local musicians to come across this year.

Just passing their five year anniversary as a band, Triptych formed after meeting at high school in 2012 and last year released their debut EP 'In The Chaos'. The band have played at the Tollbooth previously, in 2016 winning their battle of the bands competition and for a relatively small band have some impressive accolades playing in some of Glasgow's prized venues including Barrowlands, the Classic Grand and O2 ABC.

If you pay any sort of attention to new music in this country Emme Woods will not be a new name for you. Signed to Last Night From Glasgow, one of our absolute favourite record labels, Woods has just about played everywhere, including the Great Escape, XpoNorth, Tenement Trail, multiple own sets and even a live session for Tennement TV.

We write about Strange Behaviours every year so if you've been with us for long enough you will know all about this festival. As ever, we want as many as you to be there at this years festival with us.
