This year I've fell in love with so many bands and musicians. Some brand new, unheard of and unsigned. Others are supporting huge headline bands, making a name for themselves on an international level.
One of the bands I've adored this year is Two Year Break. Before I've wrote about them and earlier this month, I had the absolute joy of being able to talk to the band about their music and plans for 2016.
SBLM – Two Year Break, who are you for the people who haven't heard of you before?
We are Two Year Break, a four piece from London. Charlie is our front man on vocals/rhythm guitar, Italian stallion Tony plays lead guitar, Dan the Bass Man (you can guess) and finally, George who is our bearded drummer!
SBLM – I am always horrible at trying to pigeon hole a bands sound into a specific genre, so what would you say your musical style is ?
We
play a mix of indie and pop rock but are in the process of adopting a
slightly heavier sound, whilst still maintaining the poppy chorus's
that we love to make! Our current fans can be safe in the knowledge
that it is still us, and we are still making those bangers!
SBLM
– Is headlining festivals your goal as a band ? Every other band
seem desperate to do it.
Who
doesn’t want to headline festivals!? Selling out international
tours with major endorsement deals sounds amazing! However, there's a
long way to go for that and for us the current excitement is getting
new tracks finished, recorded and released for our fans!
SBLM – You say there’s a long way to go before you'll be headliners, so who would be your ideal band to tour with, before getting to that headlining point in your career ?
There
are a tonne of great artists we would love to go on tour with and for
all different reasons! It would probably be a really big deal for us
to tour with bands like Catfish & the Bottlemen, Don Broco and
You Me At Six, as these bands have been a collective influence, our
music isn't a million miles away from theirs and we would learn so
much!
SBLM
– The bands you've mentioned are absolutely incredible live, who
help highlight Britain’s incredible music scene. At so many gigs,
there’s always people who have travelled miles just to see the band
live which I think is just incredible, its a true representation of
what music means to people. As a band what has been your best show ?
We
have two favourite shows for different reasons. The Venue, 229 Great
Portland Street was an amazing show. We
had a great crowd and it was the official introduction of Tony, where
he became part of the Two Year Break family. Then
the
Underbelly, Hoxton Square was incredible, the acoustics in that place
are great and again loads of people came out to see us!
SBLM
– 2016 is really not that far away any more, within weeks we'll be
submerged in a new year of more great new releases, tours and
incredible music. Will yourselves be releasing anything as part of
the initial music of 2016, hopefully singles or an EP ?
We
are working on two singles currently that we are due to release early
next year, need to keep what we are working on quite secret until
then. But rest assured music is definitely on the way!
SBLM
– The release seems so far away. However you've not abandoned us,
we've got your newest release 'Tonight' to download, which I have had
on repeat since I've downloaded it. Such a great song. As for now is
there anything else you would like to say?
We
are thankful to all our fans, they have stuck with us and never
stopped supporting us, we love making music, and we couldn't do that
without them!
Also
anyone new discovering us, we hope you like what we have and what we
have on the way!
As
mentioned above the bands single 'Tonight' is available to download
for free at
A
few months ago I wrote "They are ones to watch. One day they'll
be the headline act at festivals, selling out their own UK tours,
making it big in America, showing the rest of the world rock music is
far from dead." Its a quote I stand by more than ever.
Please check this
band out, blow up their social media accounts, get all your friends
to hear them, just get their music out there.
With the promise
of new music and a developing sound, maybe that headline set isn't
too far away at all.
