Blitz Kids Leave A Legacy

In 2014 Blitz Kids released 'The Good Youth' through Red Bull Records, which showed us all who this band really were. This album, now is like a climax, as the band today have announced their break up.

Cancelling their UK tour and their set at the UK Vans Warped Tour, Blitz Kids leave us with the promise of one final farewell tour.

The band on Facebook left the message below, their break up announcement.

I don’t want to talk in clichés or metaphor, so I’m just going to come straight out with it. It is with heavy hearts but heads held high that we must announce it is time for us to take our leave.

We have always said that we are friends, first and foremost, before a band. And it is as friends that we have reached this decision to end this incredible adventure that we started 8 years ago. Between then and now, this band has taken us to beautiful places that we’d never have experienced without it, and introduced us to people who we consider family and friends for life.

We’ve worked with some amazingly passionate and extremely tolerant people during our time as a band. They showed faith in us when we doubted ourselves, and gave us a chance when we perhaps didn’t deserve one. We are eternally indebted to every single one of you.

But none of what we have achieved together would have been possible without you, the fans. We’ve gone from playing to the sound guy and his mates at pubs in Nantwich, to going on tour with our favourite bands, and stepping out on festival stages that we only dreamed of playing as kids growing up. You have taken us on the journey of a lifetime, and we will always love you.

We’re sorry, but the upcoming tour has been cancelled, and tickets will be refunded. We will be playing some farewell shows that will be announced soon. We hope to see you there to celebrate what have surely been the best years of our lives.

So long, and thanks for all the beers.

Never die.

Jono, Joe, Nic and Matt.

I've loved Blitz Kids for a long time and so reading this is pretty sad. Not just because their breaking up, but because they are another band we're loosing. Canterbury last year announced their break up/hiatus, announcing online that they wouldn't be making music for the foreseeable future, and now Blitz Kids announce their break up. Both bands worked extremely hard, they both had incredible albums, singles and EP's and we've lost them.

I think theres not enough support for bands who aren't necessarily mainstream. Radio stations, magazines, blogs and social media do their best to promote bands however the people reading or listening might not see the appeal. Theres a huge gap in the music industry I think, where there are incredibly well known and respected musicians, and there are bands who are tiny, working night and day to just get listened to, just to get discovered. There are bands crossing the no-mans land, who have peoples support and attention who are trying to get bigger. However not many bands are in this place where they can expand worldwide with success. People say this is because of the bands music, which partially is true, but also I think it is to do with peoples willingness to listen to 'new' music. People seem to stick to the artists they know and not many want to listen to other bands or musicians and fall in love with them, because no one else they know likes them.

My favourite three songs by Blitz Kids, 'Perfect', 'Sometimes' and 'On My Own' are below, although I adore pretty much all of their music.

Maybe this isn't the definitive end. Hopefully the members will go on to create other bands, making new music, continuing Blitz Kids legacy.

People seem gutted by this announcement as it came out of no where really. Its shattered the hopes of the band creating another album or new music at least, however its better to break up on a high note, through mutual decision, rather forced to break up by fights or tragedy I guess.

The link to the bands announcement is below ;

The bands official site is a bit hopeless as it doesn't mention the cancelled dates or the announcement at the moment, maybe this will change soon I dont know.

Bands and musicians never really leave us, they leave memories and a legacy, and so they 'never die.'
