In Love With ... Bastille

If I had to sum up Bastille in a sentence it would be "The band who have their own sound which the world has fallen in love with."

In February 2012 I heard the Laura Palmer EP by Bastille for the first time and I immediately I fell in love with their indie-synthasized melodic sound, piano infused solos, and powerful vocals.

The name of the band, Bastille, comes from lead vocalist Dan Smiths birthday which is the 14th July. In France this is Bastille Day or more commonly 'Le quatorze juillet' commemorating the storming of the Bastille, the start of the French Revolution.

On the fourth of March 2013, their debut album 'BΔD BLOOD' was released in the UK - which I of course had pre-ordered, since its released date was publicised. 'Bad Blood' is completely full of the bands slightly unique style and tracks like "Pompeii", "Bad Blood" and "The Weight of Living Part II".

The extended edition All This Bad Blood was released on the 25th of November 2013 with another 15 songs including 'Durban Skies', the amazing cover of 'What Would You Do' originally released by City High in February 2001.

Bastille aren't an indie or pop band. They have the indie-pop-rock sound but with synthesized elements. They remind me of Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, even Ed Sheeran and Of Monsters and Men - without the folk sound.

Their powerful and who's lyrics tell stories of Greek Mythology ("Icarus" from "Bad Blood"). Listening to Bastille makes you question who your family, friends and loved ones are and makes you question who you are but how you perceive everyone else around you.

In May and June 2013 the band supported Muse on 'The 2nd Law Tour' and in August of that year they at Reading and Leeds festival.

In February 2012 I wasn't sure what to expect from the band I had just heard but fell in love with. By the summer of 2013 I knew this band was going to be big.

The Brit awards in February, 2014, Bastille were nominated for four awards, British Breakthrough Act - which they won,  British Group, British Single of the Year and British Album of the Year.

Two years on from the first time I heard the Laura Palmer EP they were nominated for four Brits. This band are big, but this is hopefully just the start for them.

My favourite songs by them has to be either Laura Palmer or Pompeii.
