King Tuts Summer Nights 2018

Our annual summer fortnight of living in King Tuts has returned. King Tut’s Summer Nights is back and below are our favourite picks from the 2-week long line up.

Starting off with a band you all know we love - Vistas. We can skip the formalities because you know
how we feel. Having featured in our new music playlists, countless blog posts and even in our student
radio show, you could say we like this band just a little.

Over the past year we’ve watched this band grow from ‘the band who we seen support Model
Aeroplanes’ and the band who we dragged our friends to see at XpoNorth last year, into the band who
are touring nationally with others we love, selling out venues all over the place, playing at countless
festivals and are now headlining King Tuts for themselves.

Already part of many grassroots music venues stories of achievement and accolades, being able to
say a band like ‘Vistas have played here’ comes with as much happiness as our ability to say we’ve
seen them live ‘before they got big’.

Having already smashed sets at this year's Neighbourhood Festival, BBC’s Biggest Weekend, The
Great Escape, Live At Leeds, Liverpool's Soundcity, it’s difficult for us to see why this gig hasn’t sold
out already.

With the rise through the ‘upcoming’ music industry, this band has already seen, they won’t’ playing
support sets for the likes of Sunset Sons, Mariscans and Circa Waves much longer. They’re well on
their way to becoming headliners (just you wait and see).

Supporting Vistas as they close the run of live dates, are False Friends who played in the venue last
year as part of King Tut's New Year (KTNY), Victoria’s Flight and Future Firsthand who have also
featured in our playlists before.

Talking of indie four-piece's from Edinburgh who are set to be everywhere pretty soon, Retro Video
Club of course feature in our shortlist.

Previously playing and selling out the likes of Edinburgh's Mash House and Liquid Rooms, the bands
return to King Tut’s this summer could easily become another sell out to add to the list.

And as if playing to a packed King Tut’s isn’t formidable enough, the band have been announced as
the support act to Bastille when they play in Edinburgh as part of the cities Summer Sessions.

When we first came across this band last year, we felt we were onto something, and everything since
- from Tenement trail to this years XpoNorth and being part of KTSN18 - has only proven us to be right.

Coupling lively performances with not easy to forget tracks and a listening audience readily inhaling
every new release, it won’t be long until this band are everywhere.

Also playing the hut are Shambolics who we first discovered after Noel Gallagher gig in the SSE
Hydro a few years ago, whereas the crowd came out the band handed out CDs. It was the first time
we ever witnessed it, even although so many bands say they had done it at the start of their careers,
and it’s something that has stuck with us. It made us notice the band for sure and ever since we’ve
followed them so we guess it worked?!

Our favourites in Walt Disco and Lucia are playing, along with The Vanities and Stop The Rain who
have support slots throughout the fortnight.

And there you have it. Our shortlisted picks from this year's King Tuts Summer Nights line up.
Our advice, as ever, is get to as many of these gigs as you can. Not only are you supporting a local
‘small’ venue, your supporting upcoming musicians and being part of something important.

You can read more about the event and find tickets on the venues official site and on Ticketmaster.
